Matt explained the process of how we would sort thru our selected bucket of "dirt/rocks/potential gems" and use the sluice box and look for various gems in their raw form. This is a bucket item experience now crossed off - at least once! Despite all the warnings on the website about what roads not to take to get there, it really was not difficult to find! When we were there, it was not super busy, which meant that we had more of the attention of both Matt and Lisa, our mining experts. If you want raw excitement of genuine discovery, please give this place a try. If you want to look through a bucket of rocks that someone prepared for you, taking all the good ones for themselves first, look elsewhere. All which you lay eyes on comes from the illuvial plane of their mine and nowhere else. What’s more, they are the only mine in the area which doesn’t throw in lackluster minerals to attract the ill-advised customer.

You may see other reviews on here complaining that they close early and fill up fast, this being because they work to ensure the quality of each individual’s visit over the quantity of visitors. My father and I had visited the mine 11 years prior under the previous owners (who were also awesome), and were not disappointed by the new hands! Their knowledge of minerals and flume technique are bounds beyond their competitors and they take real pride in helping people learn to identify what’s in their pan. Matt and Lisa are an incredibly welcome, entertaining, and helpful crew. There are other reasons to be doubtful that this is an authentic review, which I will not discuss here. But four all four members of a family to be 100% skunked is notable. This is not to say that we do not have miners who occasionally go home empty-handed - this is UNSALTED mining, and it does happen. We are not even sure you were an actual customer, since an entire group of miners being completely skunked and not finding even one gem would be something that would stick out in our memories. Yet there is nothing really substantive in your criticisms, other than vitriolic exhortations that nobody should come to this mine. EVERY stone, including the gems, is technically a "river rock" at this mine.įinally, it is curious that in spite of your family knowing the moment they arrived that "this was not your mine" you came in anyway. Secondly, as is explained to every customer, Cherokee Mine is an alluvial deposit. One would think that if this was such a miserable experience for you and your family, you would want to IMMEDIATELY do all you could to save as many others from such horrors. Thank you for your review, curious as it is.įirst off, you indicate that you visited this mine in May, but you reviewed our establishment four- to nine- weeks after your visit, yet you are VEHEMENTLY negative about your experience.
